need some input

i just went from an xlt w/all the options to an 05 xl with no-ops realy un happy, engine ticks loudly hear a whineing and clicks but the biggest is driving on a road with bumps and pot hols this xl shakes and vibrates so bad on a rough road like gonna lose control. stock wheels 50+lbs pressure would that have anything to do with it.

Hmmm, I think we need more information here. What year XLT, what cab styles (regular, supercab, supercrew), which engines, what bed lengths?

Did you have anything in the back of the XLT (camper shell, tonneau, tool box)?

How many miles on each? Stock tires?

I've owned a 2005 and a 2008 XL. There was a TSB on suspension vibrations. And these trucks are sensitive about alignment and balancing.

I do think that 50 pounds might be high, but check the tire markings for the recommended inflation pressure. Your ride may also improve with a load.

I'd also advise checking the recall history on the vehicle. (I assume that you bought it used.) You can do this at:

Genuine Ford and Lincoln Mercury Parts & Service

Look for "Recalls" on the left side menu.

Good luck,

I would deffenitly reduce to tire pressure to what is suggested on the drivers door. You can always sneak it back up later if that didn't help. But never drive with the tires over inflated. TSB stands for technical service bulletin. How are the shocks?

52????

Should be around 35!

Also...why did you go from an XLT w/ options to an XL?

good question. some lady fell asleep at the wheel Hmmm. at 2:30 am while my xlt parked in front of my house FELL ASLEEP, her address read about 4 houses down from mine and the cops bought it. the reason for the XL is the low miles real clean and at the time didnt see or hear any probs now its two weeks since I got it.

Welcome blu. Tire pressure is very critical, yours is definitely too high if your tires read 46 and you're at 52. Read the plate on the door and start there like already mentioned. Its probably going to read about 38, but you can go a little less, like 36. If you still have trouble, something else is wrong like the shocks are NG. Also, what condition are the tires in, are they newer or a few years old? Cheers, just trying to help. Sorry to hear about your other truck, that stinks.

Tire pressure has my vote. I keep mine at 35psi. I don't know how the factory shocks are on the 05's, but my 04's were not very good. I had the wheel hop and bounce similar to what you are describing. I changed out the factory shocks at 60K and what a difference. Ride stiffens up and bounce was eliminated. If you still have factory shocks, I would look at getting them replaced. Just my $.02
