Ok now that my truck has come down in price buy a few $$ then i thought i would treat her to some mods for when she turns up. Are the below worth the price or can i get better elsewhere??
The exhaust is a good idea.....but i'm always leary of spending hundreds of dollars on a cai that really isn't going to make a big difference.....i'd go with a tuner and a exhaust if it were me.....

Whats the deal with these tuners. Do you have any info on where i can get one and read a bit about them. I dont mind the money on a cold air intake as i have always had good luck with them in the power and sound department. I mainly want it because of the sound they make. I used to have this one on my Clio RS that was designed by a company that made lotus race perfomance parts and they used my car to make a prototype so they could make performance parts for Clio RS's. I Got a great improvement in low end torque but the best thing was the noise. I have yet to hear a car that sounded like that thing did. Even the Lotus tuners was impressed with the sound it made. Really miss that thing I know it aint gonna sound anything like my clio did but it was a worth while improvement.
I think they are beyond me lol. Def dont wanna be messing with settings i dont understand. I do it with my RC car engines all the time. Lean them out so far that i seize them because i want that extra 1-2mph extra speed lol. Think i will steer clear of the tunning side lol
The tuners are really easy to install. Supposedly with VVT engines like the 5.4, you get bigger gains than with the older non VVT engines. But even in my 2000, the transmission tuning is worth it alone.
I wouldn't even bother with a CAI unless you are going to be flowing way more air than stock. Most of them draw warm air from under the hood anyway. Is that one on that car drawing air from behind the radiator?

That day it didnt have the cold air cap on the front of the canistor but normaly it would have a extra piece of flexi tube going to the wheel well. Lovely bit of kit but cost me about $500 in total.
You are buying a truck in it's first model year of a new design. Stuff may very well go wrong with it as they get the bugs worked out.
If it does...do you really want to give a dealer an excuse to deny a warranty claim? Just my opinion here, but you may just wanna leave the thing alone for a year or two until any problems the '09s have are well known...therefore you can demonstrate that a potential problem you may encounter is a known issue....

I always thought you was covered under the Magnuson-Moss warranty improvement act?? Also i cant see a exhaust or Cid causeing me many problems.
Exhaust i could have a hard time seeing them claim it broke anything...especially since its just a catback.....but cai i could see them claiming it caused intake problems....not that i've ever heard of that causing a problem.....

They have to cover it unless they have sufficient reason to believe that your modifications caused the damage. I directed this comment more at tuners than anything else, since your PCM controls EVERYTHING.
For example, you could have transmission problems...they could attribute that to the aftermarket tuning, since the tranny is controlled by the same computer that a tuner changes. Beyond that, they could claim that you pushed too much power through the driveline, messing it up.
I'm just trying to demonstrate the possible outcome of aftermarket modifications, and the appearance that they may have caused damage.

Lol perhaps i wont be getting a Cid lol. Are they really that hard to keep them good.
I've used them before, but never had one for long enough for there to be a problem. I do know that when not properly maintained they can cause severe engine damage.
Beyond that, they can be a scapegoat for any intake related problems, regardless as to whether or not they caused the problem. This would leave you in the awkward position of having to prove that it DIDN'T.
I'm not one to modify things unless I can afford to fix any possible problems. I can NOT afford $5k for a new engine at the moment...so I leave well enough alone!
But...then again...there are many who use 'em without problems...just beware...
