Installing rear dvd/tv in 2007 Expedition EL Limited??

<!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> I just bought a 2007 Expedition EL limited and it has pretty much every option inclusing navigation, but does not have the rear entertainment center (tv/dvd). I found someone selling a OEM tv/dvd system and would like to order it over the net, but wondering if I need to do all the wiring or if they all come prewired for it? I can go with 3rd party, but I prefer OEM so I don't lose the integration with my Navigation radio.

Thanks

Do you have the Johnson controls overhead rails? If it's equipped with rails, then I'd suspect it's a click and go install.

The digital switch has been coming for a long time. I want to say all tuners made after 2004 should be digital compliant. Anything before say 2005 is going to be questionable.

Right, but can you get a digital signal over the air when it all rolls out?

Yes, that's the change. The broadcast transmission will switch from analog to digital. Analog will no long be transmitted on RF. Analog has better range at the sacrifice of quality, digital will have good quality until the signal is no longer complete and cut off immediately. So as long as your within range of the antenna for good digital reception, then any tuner made in the last few years should decode it.

The ATSC tuner requirement is only for TVs larger than 13" as far as I know. Also, ATSC broadcasts do not work very well in situations like a vehicle where the device is in motion. That is why they are working on a new standard for mobile TV devices, but that standard hasn't been fully set up yet. They approved the preliminary standard if you want to read about it follow this link.
http://www.atsc.org/communications/p...e-standard.php

So now that I've said that, I am willing to bet that the TV tuner in the unit you are looking at will be useless after Feb 2009. You could theoretically use a CECB but it would only really work well when you are parked.

On the digital switch. It was my understanding that current picture and audio is carried on the subtle changes in frequency, which is why the broadcast bands need so much separation. With the digital switch, there will only be a couple of frequencies required to carry 1s and 0s for picture and audio. I believe the NTSC standards of resolution and frame rate will still be the same with the possibility of an additional set of Freqs for high resolution transmission.

The difference in the tuners being that the analog tuners converted the changes in a wide band of freqs (it's something like 100 kHz.) Were as the digital tuners take a narrower band and convert the 1s and 0s into images and audio content.

Am I off?
