Hello Im new to BIG blocks

i might be getting a 429 and 460 for 150 bucks.

i have a few questions, answer them as you please.

1. i was wondering if a 429 could be fuel injected using 460 parts?
2. if not can it be fuel injected at all?
3. i currently have a 351w in my truck, what would i need besides( bell housing, motor mounts and stands, bigger radiator, and if fuel injected a computer) to change to a 429 or 460? preferably the 429, carbureted if i cant FI it.
4. in my looking around i have found a few places that suggest that the 460 and 429 are the same block essentially, is this true?

thanks for all your help in advance. nik

1)You would need heads, intake and exhaust manifolds off an '87 and up 460 for 'stock' fuel injection, or a conversion plate.

2)Anything can be done, if you have the fabrication skills and enough cubic dollars to make it happen.

3)An entire exhaust system. Emissions controls if your location requires it.

4) Yes it's true. The 429 is essentially a short stroke 460. But there are many variations over the years. What year 460 are you talking about?
(crank clearance, internal v/s external balance, etc...)

Were I you, I would go with a carbureted 460 and be done with it.
Why do you want to dump the 351?

I beleive the 460 is a 94. I just don't like my 351 as much as a big block.

with that year 460 you should have all the top end to do the switch, and the heads will bolt onto the 429 BUT unless you have a later model truck 429 the flywheel/flexplate off the 460 will not work, as the regular 429s where all internal balance and the 94 460 will be external.

Now IF you have the truck 429 you have a different set of problems, the dampener is huge in comparison to the standard car/pickup motors, and the front snout on the crank is different also (although in those the crank is forged steel) also the front timing cover is steel instead of alum so a lot heavier.
