4spd overdrive out of late 80's truck. Ratios are:
1st - 3.25
2nd - 1.92
3rd - 1.00
4th - .78
R - 3.25
Ford 9" limited slip rear end w/3.00 gears (swapped out original 3.89 gears)
Approximately 28" tall tires.
Overdrive is almost too much on the highway. It's like 16-1700rpm at 70mph. 3rd gear around town is awesome though - as long as you're not planning to get anywhere fast - motor RPMs just lug right along at a tad over 1000rpm, and I have noticed a substantial mileage increase.
I have one 56 with a 272 engine and a dana 44 with 2.72 gears. 20.5 mpg on the hway, but not very fun around town. I have to original rear with 3.92 gears, nice gears just not nice on the hway.
I have another 56 with a dana 44 with 4.27 gears, welded for a posi. 292 .060 over
Another is my 56 panel , it has y block with over drive and 3.92 gears. this is a nice set up.

I run a T-98 with 3.50 rear gears right now. Not quite right though. 2nd is a little too steep for take-off, and 1st is to short, so I have to shift too early - like half way through an intersection. But it's not too bad in 4th at 70 on the highway. Eventually I'm going to switch to a 3.00 or 3.25 (forgot which I decided).

Yeah I’m definitely planning to step it back down to maybe 3.50 someday. I’m being picky but I think that gearset coupled with the tranny gears, it’ll shift and cruise just right.
Sam, I kind of dread that question, because the answer isnt too cool. It is a '46 three speed. Tires are close to 26 in. tall. Getting going isnt a problem, but the rear keeps the rpms down, probably too much so, unless you are going at least 55. Cant imagine Bigwin's 2.79.

1990 Ranger 4WD
MY truck is a 63' with a 301, Isky E-4, 4v Eddlebrock, headers, ported heads, rebuilt stock Cruise O Matic.
Tires are 255/70R15's or 29.1" tall.
I have done three gear sceinerios with this truck.
I started with 3.73's in the stock dana 44 track lock.
Then Swaped in a 64' dana 60-2(5 lug dana 60) also track lock with 4.10's,
I Now just swapped in a 66' 9" with a pumkin from a mid 70's car with 3.00's & a factory ford track lock.
The 3.73's were good unless you went above 60 it started to feel like a waste of rpm on the highway. Difficult to pass above about 70, since it was hard to kick down above that.
The 4.10's were real fun around town, but sucked above 50! @ 75mph the engine was turning close to 4000! Red line with the Isky installed straight up with a stock chain is 5000! A joke to pass anyone unless you were going slow.
The 3.00's are pleasant so far, However I have only logged a few miles on it.
I am having some early shift issues, where even in town it is shifting way too early under light throttle.
Also if I slow down, but not below 10-15mph, it doesn't kick back down into 1st on it's ownunless I mash the throttle, or manually shift it.
I am kind of worried about this since the cruise o matic doesn't use a vaccum modulator like a FMX does.
I will Say that even though the higher ratio kills a little torque, the torque multiplication from the converter lets it take off nicely! An added bonus of high gears with an automatic & stock converter.
I'll adjust the linkage to stock specs & see what happenes.

No matter what, it's still way cooler than a Saturn. Like my granny gear 4 speed is the king of cool. I don't wanna be a cool guy anyhow, those guys are annoying.
