Just FYI, the Cuda was not the fastest Plymouth in 1970.
The roadrunner was faster. 13.49 sec at 106MPH

Though I will agree that the Buick is bad arse.

Glad you liked the Buick article. Since this is a Ford site I won't even mention the performance and potential of the Buick 3800 90 degree V6 in the GNX of the '80's.

One engine that isn't mentioned too much, but in it's time was a real powerhouse was the late '50's 430 cube MEL V8. I think in around 1958 you could get this big cube engine in a Mercury and with 3 X 2 bbl carbs it was rated around 400 hp.

I could be wrong but I don't think any other domestic hi-po car came anywhere near 400 hp back then.

There is a guy that drag races one of these...with a 3 on the tree and I think he's around 14 flat if I recall in the quarter. 14 flat with a 3 speed std. and that much weight...incredible power it must pump out.

Well, 400 horsepower before 1972 is 320 horsepower by today's ratings. But still, 14 flat in a big old car is always impressive.

Why not? I think I might have a book on this engine on my computer desk. Although I have not read it yet.
