Was it for a gasoline motor?
What RPM does it have at the high end?

No coil or distributor means a gasser tach is usless on a diesel.

I think you need to read the directions, but my guess is the tach signal interface is only good for gasoline engines which pick up signal from the coil.

Diesels use a Hall Effect sender, nothing like the signal from a coil.

sorry wrong link... this setup will work with hall-effect switches and pulse-generators... and should enable any tach to work with any signal.

here:

Universal Flywheel Tachometer Interface

may not work for your setup... I havent read the instructions... and it's not cheap! but it's somthing to consider... if you really need a "racing tach"

This is closer to the stock tach sensor, it counts teeth on the IP drive gear.

Not sure if I would want to drill a hole in my bell housing, but I do get a little extreme with my loads.

But it should work if your tach is capable of working on a 4 cylinder mode.

The only issue left is anything over a 4000 RPM tach will never see any use.
Governed speed is 3600 at max RPM.
