Talking 85 ranger

I have a 85 2.8 auto 2 wheel dr with a rod doing time with the radio(aka KNOCKING LIKE HELL)
what motor besides the 2 .8 will bolt up to the tranny
was doing a 302 for it but now i need to put that in my f 150 pouring oil out the rear main

If you don't get any replies here, I know there is a user in the Ranger forum (BSmitty) that has a few older Rangers, and he seems to know a ton about the older models.

Just find another 2.8, there plentiful in junkyards. And EASY to rebuild. did one last year myself 522.00$ total.

What fits are basically the 2.6, 2.9 and 4.0. You're best off staying with the 2.8 as the above poster said. The 2.6 is a real downgrade and the 2.9 and 4.0 are EFI and would be a lot of work to adapt, you have to repace the wiring harness, fuel lines and probably fuel tank along with a few other details.
