lift gate lock actuator

Hello.
Noticed a while back the lift gate not locking electrically. The key works but is very stiff, So I have been researching some threads I have a couple of ideas to try but my question is What is the procedure to accessing the locking mechanism? Do I have to remove the plastic and if so where to start on that? Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Jeff

I have a similar problem from the way it sounds but I can't lock it at all. To get to the actuator you need to pull off the rear door panel. Can't remember exactly how I did that but its not hard. On mine the locking mechanism started binding so now I need a whole new piece, sounds like the start of my issue. You might try taking it off and cleaning it real well and grease it up to get it to last at least a few more years.
