49 F1 door handle spring

Can anyone please tell me if they know of a supplier for those "concentric"-if I'm using that term correctly--"spiral"? is that better spring that functions in the door opening/closing mechanism. I don't really know the actual "name" as you see, but its that flat/round spring thingee that powers the "latching mechanism". Once it breaks the door won't stay shut, and the outside door handle usually kinda just hangs there. I've looked at the catalog places, but I havent' seen it, unless I'm not looking in the right place. Appreciate any help. Tomget

This is from the thread on door latches and sagging handles, Julie's pic. I assume that's the one you mean? I think your only hope is a good used one.

Number Dummy Bill may know of someone who has some at his obsolete contacts. C&G lists them for up to 47 trucks. Here's a picture. It's easier to find the latches used than the springs. I still have the one in the picture, it's one of a spare pare I have - just for those hard to find items.

This is the one at C&G not sure if it will work for 48-52:

It is listed as part # 78-702267.

There aren't any latches on e-bay at the moment.

Well idiot Julie hit the Post button twice for the pictures above.

So, I'll edit off the duplicate post and put this link to a thread where one of the members had the same problem. There is a lot of good info in this post that I'm sure is applicable to your problem (unless you are sure your springs are broken).

Thanks for the info--I was afraid they weren't available. And yes mine is "broken"--the spring that is, and I need to replace it. The mechanism works fine--or it would--its just the broken rusty spring. I've seen these springs selling on ebay etc for earlier years--the earlier springs-I think-is round stock--and as I recall these F1's are -flat stock-They're not interchangeable--I don't think. I did have a contact number/address someone who sells springs and they asked me to send a lifesize photocopy and they'd see what they could do--I'll have to get on that. Thanks to both of you for your comments. Tomget

Hi Tomget,

Well it looks like the picture I posted got "bleeped out." It was there for awhile.

Go to the C&C website at this link and type 78-702267 in the "Search by item number" slot. There's a picture of it you can enlarge and copy. Looks to me to be the right one. It has the right number of turns and the ends are the same. How different canit be?

I think I have two or three. I really dont have a use for them now because I installed bear claws along time ago. Ofcoarse once I give them away I will find a use for em. If you dont mind waiting till tomorrow I will check to see if I still have the parts where I think they are, and i can send them to you.
