Coolant sensor leaking, what is the sensor?

I have a 2003 Super Duty 7.3l. I have a sensor located directly behind the idler pulley that is leaking coolant (all over my belt). I purchased a coolant temp sensor from NAPA, but that is not it. It is bigger and a two prong sensor. If that sensor is on top of the engine and right in front of the fuel filter, this sensor is wyed into it on the harness. This sensor is not screwed into the block, but into a piece of tubing. Does anyone know what this sensor is and what the Ford or NAPA part number is? NAPA cannot tell me what the sensor is, maybe they do not sell it.

Thanks

This is the EBPS (Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor). The tube connects to the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold. It does not leak coolant. You most likely have a water pump leak behind the pulley. Pics would be helpful.

The coolant temp sensor goes right into the water pump.

I replaced mine a few months ago from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Here is a link to the one I have:

I think maybe I am confused. You went to NAPA for a coolant temp sensor and they sold you a EBP sensor. Is that what you are saying?

EBP sensor is in this pic.

I could not see the pic you sent. I will try and post one tomorrow. To answer your question, they sold me a coolant temp sensor. I have coolant leaking, i believe from what you are saying is the ebp sensor. The truck runs perfect, i just noticed the leak a few days ago.

The EBPS is connected into a tube that goes directly into the manifold. The EBPS sensor is the sensor on the front of the HPOP. It shouldnt have coolant anywhere near it.

So everyone was correct. I found a pinhole in heater core hose. It was just hitting the belt and throwing coolant all over the front of the engine. Thanks all,

Glad it's an easy fix. Thanks for getting back to us. Return often, you will learn a ton about the 7.3.
