Once again numberdummy, I have a part #
Hey numberdummy, I hope you can help me with this.
I have a 9" and I don't know where it came from. I found these numbers on the center section:
8C16
D2AW 4668A SFI or 5FI
And by the way, just in case you havn't been told lately, thank you so much for the time and effort you put into helping us with your knowledge. I think I can speak for everyone when I say your effort is very greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

D2AW-4668-A is a casting number which cannot be translated to a part number.
Even if 4668 could be translated, it's next to worthless for ID'ing what the rear end is, as you can see:
DOOZ-4141-A .. Carrier / Fits: 1965/72 F100/Galaxie/LTD/Fairlane/Torino/Mustang/ Bronco/T-Bird = 9 inch.
Are there drums on this rear end?
What size are the brake shoes? What's the diameter of the drum?
Are there axle shafts present? Need measurements.
The ID tag is prolly long gone, it was at roughly 5 o'clock under one of the bolts that attaches the carrier (pumpkin) to the housing.
Without the ID tag, without brake drums or axle shafts, there's very little to be done to ID what's it's from.
Parts catalogs do not give specs on axle housings, so measurments can only be matched up if someone on FTE has a like 9 incher.
Ford went to "slim line" differential bearings in 1969, so the numbers from the bearings/races will tell if the rear end is before/after 1969.
But these bearings were used on everything, so....

Compare the widths of the two 9's you have.
1957/67 F100's have 11" x 1 3/4" rear brakes / 1968/86's have 11" x 2 1/4" rear brakes.
The 8.75" is considered a 9" and it all depends what you are going to use that truck with a 460 for.
Daily driver, OK. I wouldn't want to tow anything on a regular basis or haul anything heavy with it, tho.
