Big Boom
Driving down the road yesterday, I heard this boom. I stopped the truck and walked to the rear of my truck and started looking for the source.
I found that the leaf spring shackle broke away from the holder. The spring is clear to the bottom of the bed.
Can anybody help me on what parts I need and instructions on how to fix this. The spring is all right. It looks like there is a metal peice attached to the frame and the end of the spring mounts on the peice attached to the frame.
Help me out with what part numbers and repair in structions. My mechanical ability is limited but I can follow instructions.
Thanks guys

What I get from your description is that your spring shackle is broke. The spring perch is what is riveted to the frame, the spring shackle is what connects the rear of your leaf springs to the spring perch. What happened to mine is that rust took it's toll on the part and it finally broke.
I bought the left and right side spring shackle and bolt kit from Ford. I think this will be your best bet in reliability and getting what you want. I had quite a few jacks and jack stands to do this, but it is not that hard of a job. Jack up the truck from the frame to unload the rear suspension until the tires are off the ground, put jack stands in place. Remove the wheels for room.
Start with the side that is broken and simply unbolt the broken shackle from the leaf spring and the spring perch (this is of course your spring perch and leaf pack is ok). Then attach the new shackle, using the other one as a reference of which way it faces, to the spring perch. This is where it gets cloudy for me since I don't remember too well, perhaps someone will clarify. But it's a game with dropping the rear axle to connect the leaf spring to the shackle, I don't know what you'll have to jack up or down.
Hope this is a start. You may need some sort of penetrating oil, I did to get the nuts free.

skip donw, read some, look at the photos and instructions. the perch is the part that is rivited to the frame. there are two "straps" that bolt to the perch and hang down to the spring and attach with a horizontal bolt at each end... look at the photos
