Are 255/70-17 tires an oddball size?

Hello,

My '04 4.6 Auto, SCrew has 255/70 17 tires on it (this is also the size listed on the gas door) My for dealer has some in stock, but nobody else stocks this size. Is this an oddball sized tire?

Tires Plus, Sears Auto, Sams Club, as well as others have to special order that size for me. My local dealer won't take a vehicle after 4:30, so they are out...

Any recommendations for tires in the MN twin cities(south half) or Mankato area?

Thanks - Jim

The stock Generals are junk. Go up 1 size if you can't find the one you need. I bought BFG AT's for mine and went up 1 or 2 sizes...I don't remember.

Yes that is truly an oddball size. Just go to 265/70-17. Much more choice and really very little difference in diameter.

yeah, go up just one size to 265/70/17 and there will be much more selection. I'm suprised none of those tire places mentioned that to you? My brother just got rid of those crappy General 255/70/17 tires and got some Firestone Destination AT 265/70/17 tires on his 06 F150.
