I am curious, as i was born with a severe cleft to, and have had many surgeries for it.
Is her palate and teeth okay, or are they all messed up to.
I am missing part of my upper gum, and roof of my mouth, and was short a few teeth.
Mine was a severe cleft, and even though I am OLD, and the medical technology was not as good back then, mine turned out okay....So keep the faith buddy.
As an adult now, I forget I have it until someone asks me about the scar.
My teeth in the front are false....they are 2 pegged teeth, and 1 bridged.
I have had 6 surgeries in my life, but no ill effects.
Bless you and your family Mike.

Someone (a doc) suggested that having a surgery done to my mouth to remove the flap of something that was between my upper gums and lips (you can feel something there with your tongue right in the middle both upper and lower. Put your tongue out in your mouth past your teeth both up and down and there's a flap of skin there) would help my front teeth grow closer together. (Yes, I have buck teeth, and they belong to me!)
It never helped, but I was old enough by then to watch and enjoy the "RED SKELTON SHOW". The stitches hurt like hell every time I laughed, and to this day you can't watch Red Skelton and not laugh your guts out!!!
Talk about pain...
I really think braces and all that stuff are unnatural and not worth the trouble. The next generation will have to go through the same whole mess - so why waste the money, time, and pain! It's like binding Geisha's feet if not worse.
Your bloodline will be who they are regardless. I'd rather have a bucktoothed young'n than watch them suffer. For all we know they are like that for a good reason
Matter of fact in my case - maybe it was so I could whistle for help better, or SPIT DEAD ACCURATE at the right time and place!
I think we spend way too much on medical and dental cosmetic surgery. We should get over it...
For Heather I can understand. But so much more is not necessary
I wondered what I would write to a child of mine
Someone I knew would be like me one day and not know it
Until the time came, and I was the grandparent
Or even the one passed on
When my child was the parent, and their children my grands
What I would think when my parents were their grandparents
I wonder what my grandparents thought when I was born
And watched my mother and father knowingly...
Grandparents always seem to know children well, it seems
For they now are thinking back just like me
Down the long path of life they look, and see themselves once again
Not misbehaving but discovering - the same as they once did themselves
To a parent, the fear of loss and damage is close
What must they pay for? Are the young in danger when they climb a tree?
Will they have to pay a lot for a broken window when the young play ball?
But grandparents laugh, for they know it for life itself, and memories held dear
A parent is horrified by the laundry notion when a child comes home all over mud...
A Grandparent asks a child in a pond or creek if they have found any frogs or crawdads
"DON'T GET ANY ON THE CARPET!!!" the parents scream...
"We need to hose you down outside" the grandfolk confide
"STAY OUT OF THE GARDEN!" The kids are commanded.
"Come, I'll show you how to pick peas..." Confides the grandfather
"DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING!" the harried craftsman cries...
"IS that a go kart in the making? Let me help you..." the Grampa says
We become those older than we are, for we are them to begin with
Come back to haunt each generation
And remind us that there really IS no difference in people
No matter their age...
I think it is best to live as if writing a book
And in it we do the things we do, telling the story honestly
But what we do is done best if when the last page is turned someone says:
"THAT WAS A GOOD BOOK"

I found out I was gonna be a daddy about 8 weeks ago. I had to sit on that for a while.
Today, my wife and I heard our baby's heartbeat. I figured I'd share the news with the rest of you who, I am proud to say, have become a part of my life.
Our son or daughter is expected February 21, 2010.
Haven't had an ultrasound yet, but is scheduled for Sept 22, and yes, we will be finding out if it's a boy or a girl.
Anyhoo, see you on the boards!
