Viper 5301 Remote start

Does anyone have the viper 5301 Remote start Installed in their truck ? I'm looking at getting a remote start for my 08 f150. This one has caught my eye. How does this work with Pats ? I've read some require the spare key? and some are able to program the pats information.

What other brands/options are out their for remote starts ? What brands have you guys and gals had installed/installed your self.

I have the Ford remote start in my '08 F-150, and it was installed by the dealer prior to delivery. No problems at all, and it has great range to remote start the truck. When it is installed at the dealer it goes with the 3/36 original warranty. If you install one yourself or have someone else install one you take the chance of screwing something up and voiding the new vehicle warranty.

Hmm I never really thought about the Ford Warranty. It might be better to go with the ford and dealer installed. I was not going to do the viper install myself as it would not have the viper warranty. How much of a concern do you think that would be with installing a 3rd party remote start and effecting the ford warranty ? But the sales person i bought the truck from actually recommed another brand that the dealer installs. So it can't be that big a deal.

My dealer did not try to sell me the Ford remote; however, the F-150 I traded in had a Crimestopper remote start that I had installed by a third party. I asked about taking it out of the truck I traded and put into the new truck, but the salesman then said he would rather put the Ford unit in as when it is installed at delivery it is covered under the 3/36 new vehicle warranty, and warned me about voiding the warranty should a third party install one and make a mistake. BTW, the Ford remote start is far better than the Crimestopper unit I had in the other truck and was less expensive. I would only recommend the Ford unit based solely on my experience. BTW, this was the 5th Ford vehicle purchased from this dealership, and I trust their opinion; they have not led me wrong yet..................

The Ford units are made by Code Alarm and they are good systems. I installed one myself in a previous truck and then felt lazy and let the dealer install one in my current 04 truck. My brother just got one for his 06 F150 too.

But these systems we have are the older ones known as the Powercode Silver systems, remote start and keyless entry only. They have a standard 4-button remote. You can get the Ford Pats bypass module that's programmable so that you don't need to hide a spare key in your dash.

Ford has newer ones out now that I'm not too familiar with.

I'm sure that Viper one is just as good too. I don't think the newer Ford ones have the 2-way confirmation like that Viper model you indicate.

I was considering the Ford Remote start, but they don't offer 2way remotes. Its going to be the viper or one from Clifford.

well you can also check out the 2-way ones from Code Alarm's regular model line (not the Ford branded ones).

viper, clifford, or code alarm are all good brands, I'd probably choose based on price since they would probably have simliar features. It all comes down to the quality of the installation too.
