How do I Change Bulb in Heater Control Panel

It is simple. Pull the bezel off that surrounds the radio and air controls. You will then see the heater controls are held in with a few screws, take them out and the assembly simply pulls out. The bulbs are held in with a half turn nut thing, make sure you buy white or slightly yellow bulbs, if you buy green it will make the whole thing extremely dim.

I can't seem to get the bezel loose on the right side. There's nothing to get your fingers under. Do I need to use a screw driver? I don't want to tear up the dash. Any help would be appreciated.

You can leave the 4x switch alone, there's a few inches of wire on it behind the bezel so you won't break it. Not sure about the bulb number but would bet it's the same.

I found that by pushing the two heater vents beside the radio so they both point towards the center of the truck allows you to slip your fingers in behind the bezel, then you can pull straight back and it will pop off. There is a couple of inches of slack in all the wiring behind there. Be gentle and you'll be okay.

I should have mentioned when I pull the bezel I pull from the inside next to the headunit and work up. I do have an aftermarket radio though and that might be giving me more room than one with the stock H/U. IIRC I also started from the top once, just got my finger in there and worked my way around.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I pulled the bezel off after taking a deep breath. It came off OK. I bought the new bulbs from murrays auto parts. It came as a 2-pack for $4.29 (Sylvania 194LLBP)
While I had the bezel off, I wiped out the dust from the vent openings and around the radio. Everything went back together OK and the Fan control **** lights up like new!
I also started from the drivers side around the radio when I pulled the bezel off. As it began to come off I was able to work my fingers around to the other side and it popped off easily.

97's use 194 bulbs for the heater controls.
You should unplug the 4X4 switch if you have it because the passenger airbag switch doesn't have a whole lot of extra cable on it and it doesn't unplug.
That will let you swing the bezel out of the way to make room to work.
Does anyone know what the number of the bulb is in the 4X4 switch?
Mine quit working after I put it all back together.....replace one bulb and another blows!
Maybe a dealer item?
