after lift install question ???

for anyone that has installed a big lift

im looking to putting an 8 inch on my 250... after you install the lift with some 37 tires do you have to get the wheels realigned and stuff???? is there anything else you have to do after the install to make sure everything works properly?

Any time you change the suspension you need an alignment.

As a rule the stock driveshafts need some work on anything larger than a 4" lift. At 8" I think you will need longer shafts and to do some adjustment the drive angles.

Angles should be fine, just a matter of lengthening.

Any local driveline place can lengthen and balance.

I'd agree with an alignment especially if you haven't had one in a while.

A good friend of mine has put an 8 inch lift on his 06 and he was told the driveshaft had to be done, so he had them lengthened and the diffs turned a bit for alignment.
I cannot see much difference from and 04 to an 06.
For peace of mind I would do it if going up to an 8 inch lift, thats a BIG lift.

The most I have ever done was a 4 inch lift, and that was on my 04.

DC, how much can you lift the front of an '03 before the front driveline needs to be lengthened? I only have 4" Icon springs, but in the future I'm thinking about making some hangers/shackles to gain another inch of height and move the axle forward about 3/4". Thanks!

At a 8" lift you need to get it lengthened.

With that amount of shift on the center pin, possibly even at 6".
You may get some vibration from insufficient spine engagement otherwise.

Thanks for the info. I probably won't go over 5" total lift and 3/4" forward shift so I think it will be okay. With my bumper the forward shift will give clearance for 37s

I cant say about a reg. cab, as im pretty sure they have a single piece rear shaft. My Crew cab/short bed has a two piece and I run an 8'' with only a 2'' carrier bearing drop.

I have a 4 link setup in the front of mine so my adjustment on pinion angle and caster is pretty much unlimited.

But with that said I would be willing to bet tht with a single piece rear shaft you will need it lengthened. Its not a huge deal, pull it out and take it to a reputable driveline shop and they can just put you a new tube in it any length you need. Its not that expensive. Think last one I had done was $125 including balancing. Dont let it scare you, put taht biatch in the air. Also with an 8'' I would go with a 38'' tire!!!

what is the biggest lift i can go before i would have to lengthen the driveshaft because i would rather not have to do that cause that sounds like a pain in the ***.
