2009 F150 Wins 1/2 Ton Shoot Out

According to Pickuptruck.com. The F150 with the powerless 5.4L wins the 1/2 Ton Shoot Out. I guess there is more to a truck then just a powerful engine.

What I can't get over is how well the '09 Ram photographs and how badly the '09 F150 does.

In the flesh, the roles reverse IMO. The F150 is the better looking truck in person, something I never would have guessed from photographs.

It also appears that intelligent PCM strategies outperform band-aid tricks like cylinder deactivation when it comes to fuel economy as well. The F150 was he heaviest of the bunch yet had the best fuel economy.

Yep, it would have been awesome if they would have used the new 6.2L then the FORD will have really come out on top in towing, acceleration etc..... It's amazing how poorly the GM Twins performed on a wet hill. Interesting test overall.

Look at the loaded 1/4 mile numbers. Even though the F-150 is heaviest and had the least power the times were pretty close.

Ford definetely designed this truck to work. The towing and working aspects of this truck are impressive. The 6 speed auto really shines keeping that 5.4 in its powerband towing. Unloaded this truck is very unimpressive. For the guy that uses his truck for work i think that the ford is probably the best out there without going to a 3/4 or 1 ton. For the guy that uses a truck for pulling his boat, hauling his 4 wheeler, occasionally loading some cargo, etc.... i am just not seeing this being the best choice. To me this truck just screams work truck where as the titan, ram, and even the tundra have a certain fun factor about them. Almost as if they say "lets go play"!!! Just my opinion which i know is not worth much to anyone but me!!!

Why does the Ford scream work truck, because it is the slowest empty?

You forget the Ford also has the nicest and quietest interior, the best FE, in addition to being the better worker. It's the best all-arounder...that's why it's going to win the majority of comparisons.

You also have to realize that the recreational full-size pick-up buyer is becoming less and less common.

You mean slowest in almost everything? Including braking? The only test it didn't finish near the back was the "handling test". Which is a good thing, but here comes the arguement on "who buys a truck to be quick thru a slalom course?" ( just going back to the old, "who buys a truck to race with " arguement )

Good for Ford, they do have a great interior. But alot of that is individualic IMHO. Some may like it, some may not. Some may like the new "steps", some may like the Sync or the trailoring thinga majig......

What defines a truck as "the better worker?"

That doesn't bode well for all of them. IMHO Ford's reputation and the fact that it's a "brand new" truck won them this test.

Guess who Motor Trends Truck of the Year will probably be this year?

It did reasonably well in the loaded acceleration runs.

The Ram is all-new for '09 as well, and it's faster. I find your logic flawed.

How come the exact same trucks (Chevy, GMC) performed so differently then each other?

I haven't seen the 6.2 on the option list for the 2009 ford f150. Am i missing something?

Gee whiz, most available towing capacity, highest available payload, the best (and only one of two available) trailer sway control system, and the entire truck being generally better thought out for work purposes (torque converter strategy, superior tow/haul mode, tailgate step, etc...), etc.

Only you would require this spelled out.

I believe I may be detecting a bit of a "flip-flop" on your part here, heath.
