Air pump bypass

Hey guys,

I'm trying to bypass my air pump and am having a little trouble. I thought I could remove it, and run a shorter belt from the crank past the belt tensioner to the Alt and just skip past the air pump but the belt keeps sliding off the tensioner and it doesn't work.

What have you guys done?

same hear just gut it, if you cant then just run it with out the tubes goin to it. then it doesnt have any resistence, hence no loss of power

And yours didn't fall off? Mine keeps wanting to fall off the tensioner. The reason I believe is because it doesn't wrap around it as much as it used to and isn't touching it enough. It walks off the pulley when you rev the engine hard enough.

I've been busy as heck lately. Asside from working 40-45 hrs a week I've been using almost all of my spare time to build the 393 from scratch and install it in the truck. I have over 100 hours in building the truck up since I took the motor out in the first week of july. I also did a bunch of work on my new to me 94' cobra mustang. I did a roof job on my motorhome as well as rebuild the front suspension of my other car. I've been hard at work all summer long getting my vehicles situated for winter. I still need to do some work on my snowmobile as well.

But the truck has a fresh 393 between the framerails that as of today moves the vehicle under its own power. I have yet to really drive it but so far so good.

Yeah it does, I'm going to check the alignment better but I probably need some sort of universal idler pulley off to the side where the air pump was in order to have it work.

the 88 f250 I just bought has it bypassed with just a shorter belt. Sorry, cant tell you the part number since I didnt buy it.

Matter of fact, to pass emissions inspection, I have to reconnect it, but he ripped out a lot of the bypass valves. Guess Ill have to make a post to get a picture of how everything should be.
