07 HD Wheel Hop Issues

Hello everyone I'm new here. I have a 2007 F-150 Harley Davidson Edition with the Saleen Blower Option. So far I have put a Mcgaughy's 2/4 drop kit, JDM pulley and cold air kit, custom Borla Stinger exhaust. I also modded the JDM airbox and made it ram-air similiar to the JLP or Chickenear's Kool-Aid kit. I've done a couple of other things not really worth mentioning like spray-in bedliner and Vanish Lo-Pro cover, etc...

Anyway my problem is I guess with the combination of the Mcgaughy's 4" drop leafs and the JDM kit. I have MASSIVE wheel hop when I put my foot into it from a stop. Does anyone know where I can get traction bars? All I've seen are the ones for the older Harley trucks and Lightnings. The only place I can find any for my truck is JDM and they want $499 for them. That's a little overpriced. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can try leaf clamps first on the back of the springs to see if that fixes it. It will stiffen up the ride though. An inexpensive option a lot of Lightning guys have used is the traction control spring made by Hellwig. It mounts like a helper string and helps reduce or eliminate spring wrap which causes wheel hop. Years back Roadmaster had a system which was supposed to help, but I don't know if they are still around.

I'm running a 3 inch drop on the back, 2 inch on the front, with long tube headers, dyno tune, bigger boost pulley, full exhaust with high flow cats, putting out a ton of power with the Roushcharger and I'm not seeing wheel hop. Sometimes the pinion angle can contribute to this problem, maybe the extra 1" drop is a factor. Or maybe the leafs are crap because wheel hop is usually a symptom they aren't stiff enough. The Roush leafs on my truck have given me no problems (so far).

FYI... don't know if you know this, but the JDM airbox for the Saleen system is really the Roushcharger air box. Its freaking massive and there is no larger air box for the F150 than the Roush unit.

Hey SMAN, welcome to the site. I think I know what Ken is talking about, I was thinking about using these on my 2002 HD. It may also be as Ken stated, your pinion angle maybe off enough to cause this too. Here is a link to those Traction control springs if you're interested.

Thanks for the replies and the link. I think I might try the clamps on springs before I throw down 5 bills for long bars.

FTE Ken, Yeah I knew about the Roush air box. At the time JDM was the only place you could get any performance upgrades. Now Troyer has a kit for WAY less. I wish I would have waited a little longer.

I'll open a photobucket acct. later so I can get some pics posted up for ya'll. Some of you might be interested in the ram-air mod I did to the Roush airbox. It's pretty easy to do and it's not expensive.

Here are some photo's of my truck and the airbox mod that I did. I'm not finished with the airbox mod just yet. I measured the mounting brackets for the ram-air box wrong; it's not sitting as low as I'd like it.

I used a 3" hole saw and drilled out the airbox. I got a 3" drain from the plumbing isle at Lowe's and siliconed it in place. (After a little dremmel work to smooth out the inside of the drain.)

Then I snaked a 3" flex hose from the airbox to the ram-air box and connected with Stainless hose clamps.

I have a little more work to do with it. Like make new mounting brackets and snake the hose a different way. My tire rubs on the hose a little when I cut the wheel hard.

I mocked up the ram-air box out of cardboard and had my buddy from work weld it up out of diamond plate aluminum, but I've seen one made from a brake duct and brake duct hose that you can get from Pitstop USA. Here's one more shot of my truck -

If anyone is interested in doing this here is a link where I got my idea from:

Have you done any data logging to compare the results? Specifically, if its made a difference with intake air temps?
