1971 Ford F350

I have a 1971 Ford F350. I need a new fuel tank and JC Whitney only sells as far back as 1973. The tank is a rear mounted tank. Will a 1973 tank fit my 1971?

I don't think so, IIRC the frame rails on the bumps are closer together (narrower) than the dents.

Welcome to FTE

What do you mean by a rear mounted tank? Where is it mounted?

Is your truck a pickup with a Styleside bed, a Flareside bed, or?

1967/72 pickups all came with the in-cab fuel tank.

On Stylesides only, a 25 gallon mid-ship auxillary tank was available as an option.

Mid-ship = in front of the rear wheels, left side, mounted inside the frame rail.

There was no aft axle (behind the rear wheels) fuel tank factory installed till 1973.

The in-cab fuel tank has been reproduced by BLUE OVAL TRUCK PARTS.

They are located in Anaheim CA.

Look on this page among the FTE sponsors for the link to their site.

Number dummy I had a 72 3/4 ton that never even had the hole in the body for the behind the seat tank. I thought it was weird so I looked pretty close the hole wasn't welded up. Only one I ever noticed though.
