Pulling Harmonic Balancer on a 1998 5.0

Does anyone have any experiences pulling the Harmonic balancer from a later model 302? It is different from the earlier models I have dealt with in the past.

There are 3 holes in the balancer that are tapped with M7 x 1.0 threads. Problem is the longest M7 bolts I can find are 2" and I need at least 3" to be able to use a standard puller. Have tried all kinds of hardware stores, on-line, etc. with no success.

I also purchased this OTC tool that specifically states that it is for 1995 and later Ford V8's:
OTC OTC6667 Harmonic Balancer Puller - Toolfetch.com

The ends of the puller are to "thick" to get in behind the spokes on the balancer.

Just wondering if any one else has run into this situation before and how you resolved it.

Thanks,

Jim

I have had to cut bolts off and weld them to another bolt to make one the right length for pulling balancers. They dont have to be real straight.

Thanks for the reply. I had thought about that and may end up trying it.
