YES, I did , on both my 2000 v-10's. I found an instant response in the bottom end torque. Even when I 1st started it, the torque rolled the front end a bit more. I was impressed. & yes , the tone changed, a bit more deeper but I got used to it quickly. I kept the stock exhaust & cat.
One other thing, I had a vibration or harmonic at 1900-2100 rpm under slight load, say up a gentle grade in 2nd or 3rd gear, & that dissappeared.
The 1st truck , I had the y-pipe made, my second, I used the Ebay y-pipe
& I think it was a cleaner job. No regrets with this mod at all..
I've added a 3.5" fresh air snorkle with a 5.4 airbox & the truck pulls my 35' 5th wheel very well.

I used an F150 5.4 airbox , the front half only, it fits perfectly. The inlet is 3.5 " but the snorkle is still reduced, So I removed that, & added a 3.5" piece of exhaust pipe, & it will still get thru the factory opening by the rad. I used a hose clamp around the plastic to clamp onto the pipe, I stole the idea from the Banks airbox kit.
