Factory Sub problem
#4
Usually it's the amp, that's what happened to me on my 2001.
I am in the process of swapping out a new sub and amp for the old stuff because the stock system is a 1.2 ohm and I don't want a stock amp that will pack it in like this one did.
This is the one I will get I am ordering it Monday.
MTX FEN10A-T45 Enclosed Subwoofers
I could not find one for the 2004 not sure why.
You can always put a 8" sub in the old box with a new amp that has a high lvl input to connect to the head unit wires. Be aware the stock box is less than 4" deep unless modified.
Here is a good thread about the 97-2002 sub box.

A bit high? it is 70 bucks cheaper than anyone else and has a built in 200 watt d class amp. Amp sub and custom fit box with install cables and a bass control **** 359.00 not too bad.
Only problem was that they are out of stock when I phoned. arrrggg
I know I can get more bang for my buck but I was trying to save room in the back. I may break down and buy a box I hate waiting.
About the original post, maybe he can put a new amp and after market sub in.
Has anyone with a 2004 enlarged the hole and put a bigger sub in the stock location.?

That is why we haven't changed the sub in our Expy. The replacements just aren't too much more potent. What really sucks though is I have to choose between having a small dual 12" box that's designed to fit between the back hatch and the back of the 3rd row seat that with amps, subs, box, and wiring will cost about 600$, or buy a small replacement sub, not get much more bass, but be able to still use my 3rd row and have some cargo room. Just not much choices abvailable for us.

Any pics of the box that will fit behind the third rear seat? I have been wondering about that.
I am lucky living near portland if I do want a box there is one popping up every 5 minutes on craigslist cheap. Like this one.

The subs are down firing in these types of boxes. So you're looking at the bottom of the enclosure.

As for that craigslist thing. DAMN I haven't seen those old second gen MTX's in a LONG time.

I have decided on what I'm going to do for speakers and sub.
These to replace the four door speakers: Pioneer - 6" x 8" 4-Way
This to replace the factory sub: RCA 8" 120W Amplified Bass Injection System
I can make better use of the RCA system because I can simply unplug it and remove it from the truck if I need more space at given times.
Any thoughts or comments?

I committed also but went a little bigger on the sub box lol...
polk db212
I also got these for the back doors
polk db6501 6 1/2 component
Brandon, you can still take a big box in and out I am going to use quick connects.
Also, I really like these new component speakers, putting the tweeter separate really helps and you
get more bass from a round speaker.
Whichever you choose buy the 20 dollar dynamat kit for your door speakers it helps alot. One kit does two speakers.
