05 f-150 performance parts?

Im curious if there is any site that has more than a CAI for the 4.2L engines lol. It seems nobody makes anything for them anyone have any ideas? im looking for anything and everything to window shop with but my main project is an exhaust at the moment. I don't want a muffler shop job but it seems thats the only option if there are any more please help me out. Thanks for all your help.

Welcome aboard. We have all been through this looking for more power, but there isn't a whole lot out there. I think Jet makes a chip, but I haven't really heard anything good about them. I have straight pipes and a homemade CAI, there is a little bit of a difference when I am up around 2000rpms and up. But not much.

Mmmm thats sucks i've owned nothing but mustang parts are a dime a dozen for them and not to be able to find anything is kind of dissapointing. Oh well it's a nice truck but i htink i shoulda almost went with the v-8. Oh well i reckon if i can find a way to create something outta this 4.2 it will be damn unique.

Another welcome. Nice to have you here.

You are not likely to find much in the way of simple add-ons that will do much as far as more power goes.
Exhaust and inatke will make you smile but won't give you much more power.
You might find underdrive pulley setup, but don't know how much that'll help either.

The 4.2 is a dead product now so do not expect to ever see anything more developed for it.

Depending on how much money you want to put into it, you could make something out of it. I am sure you could call Comp and get them to make a custom cam for you. You could probably also get some custom injectors and find a tuner that will maximize the output from both of those. But thats a lot of money, and I don't even know if you can do any of that.

Exhaust will make it sound cool, so it can be worth the money, but the CAI is IMO a waste of money. Thats why I took mine back and made made my own out of a can of grits.

Pitviper1996 and others, try this site for performance upgrades for the 4.2L

V6Power.net

Its a Mustang v6 site but these people seem to have a good idea of what and how to get more power from this engine.

if your 05 is anything like my 06 then you dont need a cai... the factory intake is basically a cai with a crap filter... throw a k&n in and go.... as for exhaust... i just ripped the factory exhaust off at the y pipe and put on 2.5" ss pipe with polished tip poking out infront of the rear tire... did great for mileage... bottom end suffered a bit...

other than that a tuner is probably your best bet.... not much else i have seen other than getting creative?

i have long tube headers and a full 2.5" dual system on my car and i wouldnt say the bottom end suffered from the exhaust, and a K&N isnt that much greater then a stock filter

i noticed a little bit of help from my filter... if u look under the hood of the V6 trucks the stock intake sucks ait from the drivers side fender (about 2.5" pipe" to the airfilter box then a roughly 3-3.5" pipe that goes to the throttle body with only a 90* bend.... i dont know how the stangs are to be honest so that may be the reason you didnt notice much?

as for headers... i wish... unless for sure stang headers willw ork i have yet to find any for the trucks... get a shop to make yu some? it will cost you but could be worth it?

if you wanted to get alot of hp you could always make your own s/c or turbo set-up and get a good shop to tune the crap out of the pc for the added boost? or throw a nitrous kit on the truck?

ive been looking all over the web since i bought my truck and for the most part i have found exhaust kits (anything for the V8's as long as your body style matches will fit) a few cai's (k&n and afe i think?) tuners and i have even found a throttle body spacer.... thats it that i have found... but i may not have been looking hard enough?

there is a thread on a different V6 F150 website where a guy put longtubes from a 3.8 mustang on his 4.2. Bolted up with minimal issues, of course after that you need a custom exhaust. If you want more power, you can get it, but you will pay for it. It would be cheaper to start with V8, you get more power right away from that. I knew a guy that took a 95 V6 Mustang and completely built it out to 351R specs, including a 351W swap, because the insurance on a V8 Mustang was way more than a V6. My thought was how much did you spend building the car to save on insurance? To each their own, and it was a bada** car.

my car had a 3" tube from the filter box to the TB and from the filter box it had a rubber snorkal into the fender that i cut to open up more,

3.8 headers will bolt to a 4.2, dont know if they will fit by the mounts or steering shaft though.

TB spacers make nice paper weights, thats about it.

there is a kit out now to bolt a m112 (03-04 cobra/lightning/HD) trucks that will put down about 300 rwhp on 7 psi, the plate is $900 from super six, or you can go to 3.8mustang and PM mysteed and get a whole bolt on kit for $2800
