GP & GPR System

Great write up Jim. We may also want to include in this thread the LED mod, where you can wire a small LED light in your dash that is hooked to the GPR outlet so you know if your GPR is working, and when it goes off.
Also if you're trying to test the GPR voltage yourself, you can unplug the EOT (engine oil temperature) sensor which will maximize the glow plug on time. (will also set a soft code for a while)

Here is the LED mod that Chris was talking about:

It could, Phil. As the contact becomes more and more pitted, it becomes more & more of a resistor, dropping the voltage that actually makes it to the GPs. But a year old GPR *should* be okay. If it's not, check out the monster Stancor guzzle put in:

P.S. great write up

If you have a GPR, then yes, guzzle's stancor mod will work. If you have an early 99, just transfer the shunt, or put both wires on the other big post. That mod is just about putting in a better relay.

I just got a heads up on this thread so i will throw in my 2 cents worth.
My glow plug .jpg cheat sheet.
GPCM (Glow Plug Control Module) if you don't have a GPR.
Tip: If you have a GPCM and are getting a DTC for a bad GP swap the two connectors at the GPCM. If after clearing that DTC and it comes back as the same GP and not the corresponding one on the other bank then you have a bad GPCM. If it were a bad connection, wiring or bad GP it would come back as DTC for corresponding GP.
My glow plug at 82k. Kinda of redundant to Jim's post so let's say my 3 cents worth.

My GPR tested out ok but I had already bought the Stancor and changed it out at 95k miles. When I took it off, it rattled!!
That ain't right..
Tightening the 2 hold down nuts were a bear though.
A 2" in length 1/2" open end would have been nice to have....
The Stancor being bigger, doesn't allow you to use a socket.
That was a 2 cigar job because of it.
