Snow Plow?

Anyone have any suggestions regarding snow plows and snow plow setups for an X? I am toying with the idea of getting something for mine.

I believe Downriver Thunder is one that does (or at least did) what you are looking for...here's a picture of his truck with a snow plow...

Hopefully he will chime in for you.

Joe.

It's the same 'footprint' of an F250 short bed and I see plenty of plows on those in my area.

I checked into Western brand and The Boss brand and they both offer setups for the X.

I have a Boss 9'2" Power-V XT on my Super Cab Long Bed.

If you do a plow, I'd recommend upgrading your front springs to X codes which are rated for 6000lbs and since I hate stock shocks, upgrading shocks as well.

Are you planning on a lot of plowing or just a little?

I see you are in N. IL.....I picked up my Boss at a dealer in Wauconda, great guys to deal with if you are close. They sell Western as well.

If I do a plow, I would be doing moderate plowing....not parking lots, etc, just small drive-ways and such. Thanks for the tip on a location to shop. I live in Sandwich and I called a dealer in Sycamore for somepricing on Boss and Western.

I bought mine here:
Home

Cheaper than the other Boss dealer in my area.

I know the owner's son, manager and some other guys all plow. And they run Boss so that's what they recommend. I've seen them plowing parking lots with their Boss Vs (didn't know that they sold them), which is what got me looking at Boss and I ended up finding their shop from the Boss site. I ran Western straight blades on my last two trucks.

Possible: yes.

Just have to adjust the height of the bracket on the truck to keep the plow frame at the proper working angle.

Icon springs are on the soft side so they may sag a little under the weight of the plow.

Mine came with a 7.5" Western Pro Plow. I have F250 springs off an '03 Diesel sitting in the garage, I think the X needs them. My front drops 3" when I just put the carriage on. I do a few driveways, and it does a pretty good job, though I wouldn't want to do it as a business with the X.

DCSpecial: Is the BDS lift stout enough for plowing some?

The BDS springs are stiffer so they won't sag under the weight of the plow as much. Downside is the harsher ride without the plow vs. Icon.

Just so there isn't any confusion, the Icon springs won't be damaged in anyway from the weight of the plow, just sag more when the plow is on and raised than a stiffer spring would.

Yes, I still have the X with the plow. It's my company truck and use it to plow our parking lot which is anything but wide open. It get's hard in spots due to the narrow turn radius of the X but still does a decent job. Ford has a service bulletin out stating the X should not be used for plowing, don't know why though. I added airbags to help support the front end with the plow on. One good thing about using the X for plowing is that I hardly have to use 4wd it's so heavy. You can look at my gallery for other pics.

You see a lot of crew cab F250/350 with plows and no one questions that, when actually the EX has a shorter wheelbase. I agree on the front springs being soft though.

I'm interested in this type of set up. I wouldn't be plowing much, a few driveways and the church parking lot, which would be just 6 passes strait, very open. What type of cost would I be looking at? Does the Excursion have the front power takeoff for the plow?

Cost varies based on what brand, style, size, etc..

Probably anywhere from $3500-7000+ installed.

Harness, power, etc.. is all hooked up under the hood, power is pulled from the battery run the pump on the plow.
