best option for 4r70w

The transmission has gone bad in my 95 f150 4x4, and its got the tough to find 4r70w transmission. id rather not get another junkyard unit but i can get one right from ford for $1400, and its got a 3yr/100k warranty. what does everyone think? it seems like a good deal to me. does anyone here have a reman ford automatic in their truck im concerned on how its gonna hold up towing and such?

Wink

Check in your area and ask around about the quality and reputation of a local-home town type transmission specialty shop-DO NOT USE any big chain trans shop!!!! have your trans rebuilt right and may be add a shift kit...ask the shop folks what can be done while its being rebuilt to make it better and stronger than it was when it was new.
These shops also warranty their work, and I would strongly recomend using MERCON V full synthetic fluid after the rebuild, its more expensive but well worth the extra $$

Thats what I plan to do when mine goes out. I would go with the Ford one. Its got over 260K on it and still works as good as it ever has. I just serviced it and the inside of the pan looks perfect except for some crap on the magnet.

Did you have a bad experience with a large chain shop?

I have bought engines and transmissions from Jasper, Summit, ATS and local rebuilders. I have found the "big" guys can offer a better price due to high volume, can build stock or high performance and come with a warranty.

I have talked to several local "small" shops and when I start asking about Kevlar clutches, upgraded input/ output shafts and interchange parts from stronger tramsmissions I usually get the glazed over look in response.
