Smile 6 months to do this. Please advise.

My cousin has done it again. Another challenge. I have 6 months to put as much as I can into my truck. I know that to go with a turbo set up I need to work with a new exhaust and injectors to do this.

My questions are:
(1) What is the max CFM and boost psi I can run on my stock 460.
(2) What size injectors would be recommended.
(3) What would be a good header setup for here. I was thinking about inverting the headers to mount the turbos.
(4) I was thinking about running a 4" single exhaust after the turbos. Will this reduce too much back pressure? Any thoughts or concerns?

Now for the other info. My cousin has a modified '87 Ford Ranger. I do not know what he has in his ranger. I have a '96 F-250 with a 460. Both trucks are 4X4. My truck is pretty much stock. I have removed the exhaust from the cat back.

The challenge is this. We are going to meet at a race track for a 5 mile straight run. I know that I am also going to have to have my speed governor removed or set ridiculously high.

Any other thoughts?

V8Power4x4 is starting off with a positive reputation.
This whole plan sounds pretty out of wack just for a race but sure... (Please dont take offence) The only reason I even bothered posting is I can answer one of your questions. Take the exhaust and go big. I come from the DSMing world and one thing I know is you can go as big as you can stand the noise exhaust wise on a turbo.(Or two in this case) All it does is equate to faster spool time and power. Hope this helped.

Thank you for your reply. The race is only making my plans for the truck accelerated. I was planning on a lot of this for my truck but was going to take my time. With my cousins challenge I am speeding up my plans.

Thanks again.

6-8lbs of boost is all I'd run thru a stock motor. Much more and it will blow a head gasket in short order(or the bottom end?).

Headers? Unless you find a set of shorties that you can turn upside down I think a std set for that truck will be a problem. They'll have the pipes into the radiator/hood if you turn them upside down.

Exhaust? I'd run a short dump tube just like most of the car guys. You dont want any restriction after the turbo or will slow down the spool up of the turbo. The turbo is the "backpressure" for the motor.

To get rid of the high speed shut down, you'll need to find a manufacture of a chip for your truck and hope that it has that option. If I recall my '97 F350 was about 95mph? then it shuts down. Not sure if it's just ignition or fuel also? can't just bypass with an aftermarket ignition, as if it shuts down the fuel you'll burn it up with a serious lean out.

A race track with a 5 mile run?? Is this a road course or what? never knew a race track with 5 miles of straightline. Even the Silver State run isn't that long and they run 200 mph. Your truck at much over 100 will be a death trap with the aerodynamics of a large brick, let alone the tires aren't rated for that kind of speed.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks for the info.

The Wendover Open road race is well over 5 miles. My truck shuts down at about 110 MPH. I will have a better estimate of that once I install the Lightning speedo.

Thank you for reminding me about the tires. I will have to get a set of Z rated tires.

For the headers I have found a set of mid length Hooker headers and will be looking into a setup similar to what turbonetics has designed for the new Mustangs. That is still on the drawing board though.

Thank again for your input.
