Where Is The Motorcraft 5w40 Dino Oil?

When I bought my Job#1 6.4 PSD in January 2007, Ford had stated that the Motorcraft 5W40 CJ-4 dino oil would be available in February 2007. A refinery fire in Ontario delayed the introduction until June 2007. I have heard nothing about the Motorcraft 5W40 CJ-4 dino oil since.

About a year ago Motorcraft came out with the Motorcraft synthetic 5W40 CJ-4 oil but with no oil change mileage relief by Ford I am not interested in it.

My job #1 Ford Owners manual states that you must use 15W40 or 5W40 when towing. The low temperature limit for the 15W40 in only good to about -8C and must use 5W40 or 10W30 below -8C. I tow a lot in colder weather so I don't want to use 10W30 oil. I asked the dealership yesterday about oil grades and they stated for colder BC weather that they use Motorcraft 10W30 CJ-4 bulk oil for oil changes. I mentioned the no tow statement in owners manual with 10W30 oil. They said that Ford now recomends the 10W30 even if you are towing.

Does anyone in the Forum have an newer job #3 or 2009 owners manual that has removed the oil grade restriction of 15W40 or 5W40 when towing or does anyone have the paper work from Ford that says we can use 10W30 when towing in colder temperatures below -8C?

Thank you for the latest info on the oil viscosity to be used on the 6.4L PSD. I have had a running battle with several Ford dealerships in this area about the oil viscosity to use at different temperatures. To date, all of them see no harm in using 10W30 in winter even if you are towing or snowplowing. The 6.0L PSD has a totally different oil viscosity temperature range plus no restriction on oil viscosity when towing. It seems that the dealerships are confusing the two totally different oil viscosity ranges. With the tight Ford warranties I don't want 10W30 in the oil sump if I have an engine warranty repair on a tow vehicle.

I will not use Motorcraft 10W30 oil as I tow in the winter. I will use 5W40 CJ-4 Dino oil below 20F (-7C) so I will now shop around to find some.

AFAIK all 5W-40 oils are synthetic.

I don't think they can make a 5w-40 dino oil. RTS is a group 3, which technically is dino, but still called synthetic.
