We only name our vehicles that have personality and only since we started racing them. We usually wait until they tell us their name, that way we know the name is right.
Our red Miata was Maybelene.
Donna's blue Celica is Bluberry.
The 56 is Gracie.
The white GMC pickup we tow the trailer with is Puller Bear.
The yellow Solstice GXP is the Krazed Kanary.
Yeah, I'm with you on that one, only certain cars really get names. But some have so much style and class and are really such one of a kind pieces that they need a name because they have more personality than most people. And though they have names, I find I usually don't bring it up directly normally, it's more like "my '67" or whatever, then when I get to talking about her the name generally pops up.
The first time I saw a '56 I knew instantly she was Abby. It's just a perfect name for the truck really, especially black or red. Though originally I was going to spell it Abbie, but Abby grew on me after about a year.
Bella is also a great name for this era of truck, especially if you read Twilight... even though it was a Chevy.
It depends on who is talking about it. Most of the time people just say "the truck" or "your truck". I usually call it "the 56" as opposed to dads two ford trucks (88 and 97)
I had a '66 F-250 one time that was 2 tone cream and tan and had a green tailgate, a blue door, a black pipe bumper, lot of dings, and a loud engine knock.
The woman who named vehicles used to call it "Pig F*#k 'cuz it looks like something a pig would get romantic with."
