blew the motor - crate options?

2001 Screw w/ 5.4 motor. 110k miles.

Remote mount turbo w/ 7psi of intercooled boost.

No compression on 3 cylinders, misfire on two. Removed one spark plug from misfiring cyclinder and the tip/electrode was half disintegrated. I think it got a bit hot. Once motor is running I'm going to have to double check the boost levels and the AFR's to diagnose what caused this. I've been told, given condition of spark plug, that pistons and valves are most likely shot.

I know this sounds crazy, but I have enough power. I'm considering a built bottom end (rods/pistons) for strength/durability ... with a fairly stock top end. (two reasons: cost of the mods and cost/effort to retune).

I've tried searching ... lots of engine builders make expensive high hp motors. I'm looking for something more reasonable. Suggestions?

Thanks, lugbolt

Thanks Phil.

I "think" I'm looking for a long block. I found built short blocks, I found high hp built long blocks (for example, dssracing).

Looking for a long block with a stout bottom end.

Also looking for opinions if this is overkill for 7psi of boost. Should I just pick up a used/good 5.4 for $2k on craigslist and drop that in.

Beechkid is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Try gofastparts.com, they are located in Redlands Ca and have a very large selection of crate motors in a variety of performance ranges- have yet to find better prices.

You could go with a used motor,,,but you don't really know what your getting. Now,,7PSI is not a lot,,but it will still shorten the life span of any stock block.
It's not a fun job to swap motors,,,and if your running 7# now>You might want more later on.( I know 99% of people do!) So a built block would be a better option,,,if it's in your budget.

You could have your heads fixed,,or even go with a set of ported heads and cams to make more power. With a build block,,,you can make lots of power and not have to worry about it as long as you have a good safe tune!

Also,,,you might save some money if you have a good shop near by that has built Modular motors before, by just buying the rods and pistons ( you May already have a forged crank)and all new bearings. And use the block you have.
