Is this a good air intake system? Is it durable and easy to install? Also, is this air intake system good to increase loudness in your truck as well? If not, what is a good air intake for this. Thanks

 

With a cold air kit, you may notice more whistle, but it will not make your exhaust louder. for that, you need to modify the exhaust.

AEM is a decent filter. They use polyester instead of cotton gauze and they are dry. I don't like metal tubes, even shiny ones. The polished probably resist heat as well as or even better than plastic, but it's one more thing to keep clean. For easy to install, it would depend on your vehicle and the other mods you might have.

My personal preference would be to go with Truflow before AEM, I view them as a sport compact, tuner, ricer, punk kid company.

 

I've got duals with a Flow Super 44 and big tips so my exhaust is modified. With that setup, would the AEM be a good choice for performance and loudness? Where can you find Truflow products? Any other opinions on Air Intakes?

 

Most places who use Keystone Automotive, like advanced auto can get them.

The muffler controls how loud the exhaust is, it's job is to muffle/attenuate the exhaust frequencies. You might get a tiny change from no intake, but without changing the muffler it's going to extremely difficult to get a significant change by playing with the intake.

 

Right I know this i'm happy with my exhaust but are AEM intakes worth the money?

 

Is AEM Brute Force or Airaid better?

 

It depends on what qualifies as better. The AEM filter is dry, polyester, and the kit uses a metal tube. Airaid uses a coton gauze and oil filter, the tube is plastic, and I've dealt with the guys long before they were airaid. I am swayed because I knew them back when they were evergreen performance and was one of my speed parts suppliers.

It's up to you decide if you want a wet or dry filter. My choice is the Airaid.

 

I have a97 f150, 4.6L. I went with the AEM Brute Force intake, and feel that it was the right choice. I definitely have no regrets with it. I also installed a BBK after market throttle body to boot. The AEM product was very easy to install, and only took about 15 minutes. Couple those after market products with the Flowmaster series 40 cat back dual exhaust that I put on, and the truck sounds great and has a vastly increased pickup, along with about 50 more horses. If I had to do it all over again, I would go with the exact same components. Hopefully this helps your decision. Oh....btw, the cheapest site I have found to purchase this stuff was truckperformance.com (at least it was at the time of purchase).

 

Also......don't go with an oiled filter unit for the intake as it will dirty your MAF and you'll havta clean it from time to time due to CEL P0171 / P0174 error codes. Go with the AEM.....dry filter technology......of course this is my opinion, and we all have our choices and reasons for picking the parts that we install :-)

 

It's a good idea to clean your MAF regardless of the filter media. I properly oil my filter and don't have a build up problem, but I clean my MAF every time I put a clean filter on. It's good maintenance, the most restrictive automotive filtration doesn't block every thing.
