I am a newbie to the forum, so bear with me if this has already ben posted, but I could not find anything on the removal of an 04 tank. I have an 04 Expedition EB with the 5.4L. Yesterday, the gas guage went dead and the message center now reads --- to E. The message also says FUEL COMPUTER DATA ERROR when I try to reset. Had diagnotics done and was told the sending unit was bad. So, now I am looking at installing the pump/sending unit as you cannot get them separately. The dealer wanted $500.00 to remove the tank and install the new pump/sending unit. I have removed the tank multiple times in an old Jeep I had, so I am some what familiar with removing the tank. However, I do not have any manuals to work from on this 04, so I am going into it kind of blind. Does anyone have advice/pics/steps/diagrams anything that could help me drop the tank? Unfortunately it has close to a full tank of gas, so I will have to wait until it is almost empty to drop it. Thanks in advance for any help!!

 

While you have the gas tank off, inspect the brake lines that run from the ABS module to the rear axle and between both rear wheels. If they look questionable, replace both lines while the tank is out. It will be much easier with the tank out.
