Water Pump check list

Well after 9 months my cheap water pump my warrenty company sent me has started weaping so I am going to go with the Airtex pump that everyone seems to be going with. My question is do I need to buy anything more then just the pump like any gaskets, hoses or such? I have a new thermostat to put on along with a housing.

I was going to go with the Rotella Coolent but at $25 a gallon I am going to go cheaper, how much cheaper can I go and still have some good reliable coolent. Is 50/50 alright for the truck or does it need to be tested regularly and do I need to worry about cavitation?

Thanks guys!

the water pump should come with a gasket, the thermostat should also come with a gasket
As far as hoses that would depen on the shape yours are in
rotella ELC at a truck parts house I use was a little over $16 a gallon
it is hard to get enough in using 50/50 consentrate is easier

I replaced my lower hose and overflow bottle hose with Gates replacements from Carquest. Some people don't use sealant but I used a little grey RTV on all mounting connections, including the t-stat connections. I used Rotella but I believe Peak makes a diesel ELC coolant from Walmart that already has an additive.

I seen the peak but it said for all makes and models. So you sealed up everywhere that mounted up, how much did the hoses run you?

O'Reilly's sells the Peak Final Charge in the 50/50 and concentrated. The concentrated is about $20/gal and they may have to get from their warehouse. They didn't stock it locally to me. Zerex makes an ELC, also, called "Extreme" and is sold by NAPA. About the same price. They are rated for 300,000 mile service intervals with no SCAs.

Final Charge is $17/gal at Napa. At least it is HERE. Nic couldn't find a Napa with it out in Cali, but maybe you'll have better luck. Final Charge and Rotella ELC are the same thing.

Here's their website, if you want to read about it:

Sounds like the final charge is the way to go if it stays that cheap.

Get some Sil-Glyde from NAPA to lube the gasket and o-rings. Its a bit sticky and will hold the gasket in place. Worked great for me.

Think about a fan wrench tool kit loan from AutoZone. Depsoit refunded upon return.
