The SD must not be equipped with the optional early warning ground radar to prevent these things from happening.
Those darn commuter jets are really hard to see until they are right on top of you
That is going to be one nasty bill on the plane. Bet it goes over 150K easy and hits closer to 300K.
Note to self, don't play chicken with a plane.
As a former aircraft mechanic for Pinnacle Airlines, an exclusive operator of the CRJ's, I would say that there is at least a million dollars in parts alone. The radome is trashed (120k alone), major sheetmetal damge, nose-gear damage, and is the pressure bulkhead damaged? That's just what I can see from a very quick glance at two small pictures. Then the total of labor is anyones best guess. Anyone that's ever driven on any airport property knows that a moving aircraft always have the right-of-way. So...then we'll start to add up the cost of lost revenue while this plane is on the mend.
I'm curious as to the specifics of this. It makes mention that no passengers were on board. Inexperienced mechanics taxiing perhaps? Extreme fog, rain?? Hmmm....
Since the pick up more than likely caused the accident their insurance company should have not problem paying for it!
That would be some call to make to your agent to file a claim, "Umm, I ah, hit a plane today".
My mechanic (a big ford truck guy) and I joke about this sort of thing all the time. He'll point at a small dent on one of my trucks and I'll say that's were the train hit it.
It mentions in the article that there were three passengers in the pick up and only crew in the air craft. It must have been an actual head on collision. That would have been something to have caught on film.
If I'm not mistaken, there's a $10 million minimun insuance liability for any vehicle to be on a ramp when there are moving commercial aircraft in the vicinity. And, if this indeed happened at O'Hare, and that certainly appears to be a O'Hare truck, then it's insured by the city!
More damage to that I left off my first post would be the ADG (Air Driven Generator) and the ground power receptacle, and there is so much more that I'm forgetting I know.
I also searched the NTSB's website last night and could not find *any* mention of this which I thought to be odd. Even if it happened as recently as 18 Oct 08 as stated it should surely have a preliminary report entered.

if i had to guess i'd say that JET turned onto truck while taxiing..
the damage doesnt appear as if the truck hit the plane..
funny how it looks like rescue services made a suicide door to get to the injured people.. i guess just opening the door would have been to easy. or prehaps they simply needed more room..
