Well, for those of you who did not read my previous post, last Sunday I pumped 12.5 gallons of unleaded into my tank. I had the truck towed to my friends shop and he drained 16 to 17 gallons of fuel out following the instructions from my fellow FTEers. Once that was completed, he pumped in 10 gallons of diesel fuel and a 1/3 of a jug of diesel kleen. After work tonight I picked up the truck and went to the truckstop and topped off with 31 gallons and another 1/3 of a jug of diesel kleen. The truck runs just as you all said it would (perfect). Now here is the statement then question. I thought my owners manual said I have a 36 gallon tank. How in the heck was I able to pump 41 gallons into that tank? Does anyone know what the actual size tank comes on a 99.5 F350 4x4 CrewCab Superduty with a longbed is? Thank you so much for all of your support. I really needed you guys and you all came through.
Longbeds have a 38 gallon tank, that will take several more gallons to the neck. I have a "29" gallon tank in my short bed, and I measured ~34.5 gallons filled to the neck from dead empty when I did my in-tank mods.
One of my drivers made the mistake of putting E-85 in our 04 6.0. Luckily the tank wasn't empty and he shut it down as soon as he noticed the truck was running different.
unless somebody put a larger aftermarket tank in it seems impossible
with the tank bone dry it may hold 41 gal
think tanks have 20% left for expansion and your should be 39 gal that would be a total of 46.8 gal
I thought that short beds only had a 25 gallon tank. But they have a 29 gallon tank?
Yep. And I measured what I put back in from it being bone empty (maybe a pint or two left down in there). 34.5 gallons. Made me feel better when I put a little over 31 in it one time after pushing it on a long trip. I was about to suck the upholstery up my rear I was puckering so much before FINALLY reaching that fuel stop!!!
EDIT: If you don't take the time to trickle that last 5ish gallons in, the pump shuts off at about 25 gallons when the needle shows empty. That's what the "Harpoon Mod" is for. You'll get all but about the last gallon in the tank before the pump shuts off after the mod.
