Anybody know if the factory aluminum rims off a 96 F250 will work on an 89 F250? I will also post on the tire section but does not seem to get much action there. thanks jeff

As memory serves, this is almost correct. Ford F150 went to metric 5 bolt in 97. In 97 til 99 F250 trucks (same body as the 97 up F150) actually had 7...yes, 7 lug wheels (WTH was Ford thinking?!) 97 F250 HD and F350's (same bodystyle as 92 up) used the std 8 bolt pattern. In 99 the Super Duty line went to a metric 8 bolt pattern that remains unchanged now. F150's on the other hand, varied stud sizes, number of studs, etc just to confuse the hell out of all of us since 97 and ensure that us older truck owners can't opt to run newer wheels realistically..thanks Ford.

Someone add to / correct me if my memory is flawed but I think this is right.

Nope...the Mustang wheels would bolt onto a 90's era Explorer or Ranger though (or Jeep Cherokee for that matter..one running around here with 16" 94ish GT 5 spokes that looks pretty good with em).
97 up F150 wheels won't bolt up either. I have access to later model nice F150 wheels that I think would look great on my truck, but noooooooooo.....I can't bolt them on! Gee, thanks Ford. I think my truck would look pretty good with some factory 17's on it too! Oh well, guess I just keep the 15" American Racing ones I have on it now and spend the wheel money on a 351 instead!

Ford, in 97 offered the F150 and F250 (Light Duty) in the new bodystyle. Those F250LD's were the 7 lug style truck. Also in 97, Ford offered the F250HD (Heavy Duty) and the F350 (both using the 92 up bodystyle and standard 8 bolt pattern). Neither of these were "Super Duty" trucks. As a very, very early intro in 98 Ford came forward with the 99 "Super Duty" lineup...the F250SD and F350SD thus creating 2 distinctly different full sized truck lines. The SD's went through some early growing pains with under the skin variations but were all based on the new SD series regardless, not the 92 up series. It was with this series change that the metric 8 pattern emerged.

This is the way I understand it, I believe I am correct, but.......if I am wrong I welcome any correction or clarification.

There is a way to run Gen 2 Lightning wheels on the older Gen1 5x5.5 pattern. It is only a small difference, and with correct lug nuts will work after drilling the wheels.

Got to the NLOC, or I can for you, and do a search. If I remember correctly, the holes need drilled out to a 11/16", and use the lug nuts with built-in washers. This is for the factory wheels that are hub eccentric (the hub centers the wheel) NOT wheels bolt pattern eccentric (tapered holes). Both body style trucks have the same hub OD.

I think these are the lug nuts e-bay Item number: 270293905354
