Engine stand plans

I would like to build a engine stand, the type that bolts to the back of the block and allows it to rotate.Does anyone have any plans, or recommendations?

I thought about the same thing about 6 months ago. When I looked at Harbor Freight and realized they were on sale for $30 bucks I said load it up. Cant buy the steel for that.

IMHO, would go with a stand with 4 wheels, most importantly, the wheels are good quality and designed to take the weight. I have 2 engine stands both with inferior wheels that drag and not roll, don't feel comfortable moving the engine for fear the stand will tip over. Also, next stand will have replaceable wheels, if they make them, many are welded to the stand.

May want to check Craig's list and narrow location to your area, come across engine stands regularly going for between $30-$50.

Also suggest checking local auto parts stores, seem to recall same or simular 1000# stands as HF and save cost of shipping. Not excited about the stand in link, not sure about the wheels, would have to check them out.

While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com

Link to Harbor freight, may be enclined to go with the 2000# stand if money is not an issue. However, not sure about the V angle legs, certainly appear to add stability, not sure the angle would not present a clearance problem, would have to check it out and consider.

Harbor Freight Tools

Anyhow, had an urge to chime in and add my $.02.

I bought that "V" stand from HF and it does a decent job. Kinda blows when you want to rotate a 1200 lb diesel engine with the chincy 12" "rotater bar"
