Bart, my heart breaks for you. I lost my best buddy when I was growing up. A smart-assed Black Labrador Retriever. He was so devilish, I named him Satan and he lived up to his name. He died from some un-natural cause, a cranky neighbor poisoned him.
And then that danged X took my two Golden Retrievers and gave them away without my permission. You know, I will never forgive her for that spiteful action that her attorney told her to do.
bart, I know that you are going to grieve. I can see that in the pic posted. And no, you will never be able to replace that "Best Buddy." Give yourself some time, then one day just drop by the local shelter. There will be one lonely sad looking castoff that no-one wanted that will catch your eye. Just do it.
That is what I am planning just as soon as I can get a house that will be home to me and to the one or ones I chose.

I am soooo sorry to hear about Jake, Bart. I know he was a huge part of the family and your best friend. He will never be forgotten. You, your family and Jake will be in my thoughts.
I was given this poem when I had to put my puppy down. Hope you like it.
The Rainbow Bridge story
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

WOW Bart......I feel for you right now. I have had dogs my entire life, and fully understand how you felt about Jake. They are truly mans best friend. I read this and got an empty feeling in my stomach. Let us know if there's anything we can do.....it's not easy losing a family member, and I know you treated him like one of your own.
