Battery Gauge

Have a original 40 ford p/u after truck starts battery gauge pegs out into the green . Will this hurt anything??? Or what can be done to get gauge to read normal again?
Also a while back some one asked about polarizing,
Can someone explain again?

doesn't sound like polarization problem, sounds like points in regulator are stuck. is battery in good shape?? a weak battery will cause generator to peg gauge, but only above 1200 or so rpms.
