Front disc brakes conversion...

I'm look at doing the front disc conversion on my F3 that a couple other members have done on this site. They were using late 70's F250/350 2wd rotors and the mounting plates. I'm looking at a 79 F250 2wd tomorrow, just a fast look without taking the wheels off. I was told there are two different spindles. One the caliper mounting plate is one with the spindle, the other the mounting plate bolts to the spindle. The second one is the one I need for the conversion.
Is anyone familier with these 'newer' trucks. Where and what should I be looking at. Any pictures or diagrams would help. Can the serial number give me the info I need?

Thanks

As far as I know, the 2wd's are the ones with everything as one unit (spindle/and caliper mount), and the 4wd's are the ones with the separate caliper mount (which you need)
