Tire Pressure

Guys with E-350's, what kind of tire pressures are you running?
I have a 2006 e-350 Super Cargo Diesel van lightly loaded for 98% of its use. With the tires (Micheline LTX MS Load Range E) inflated to the max 80psi every pebble in the road is felt. How low can the pressure be run with out causing tire damage? Just testing with a short run the pressure had to be reduced to 60psi to feel any change and by 50psi it was getting bearable. Thinking that that might be to low.
Suggestions?

I know that 50psi is too low. And 80 is harsh. My door sticker has 55 front and 80 rear. I run 80 front & rear All the time though on the same tires as you.

I have the 2002 e350 cargo (with 62,000 miles, recently purchased) with new LT245/75 goodyear wrangler ht tires on it. I am running the tires at 60 in the front and 80 in the rear as recommended by the sticker. I have only been running this pressure to help figure out why the van handles so poorly. A curve at 50 mph and a sharp bump of the steering wheel makes the van feel fishtaily. Feels unsafe.

I could feel every single pebble as well so I replaced the shocks with Monroe 555032 Gas-Magnum RV Shock Absorbers" ($42.29 ea) purchased on Amazon. The ride has really smoothed and improved. The oem stock shocks are very stiff. I do run the van with a very light load, (just paneled and insulated, toolbox and a couple surfboards) about 95% of the time.

The tires i have now do make the van handle very poorly and i will be replacing them with LT265/75 all terrain tires soon.

I ran the 265's at 55 psi in the front and 65 in the rears on several e350 vans before this one. I never had abnormal tire wear issues and was happy with the ride.

I will be reducing the pressure on these tires soon to get a smoother ride.

When I bought our church's '02 E-350 15-passenger, the dealer had just installed a new set of LT245/75R16 Wildcat brand all-season tires, not a real aggressive tread but they do fine in the rain and light snow. I'll have to take a look and see about the particulars of them, but I do know it rides very well on them.

BTW, I'm running them at the sticker pressures because we have that van pretty full of kids every Wednesday night.

Of course, I have a feeling Ford put a little softer shocks on wagons than they do the cargo vans ... can't be having a van full of folks whining about a hard ride, can we???
