Swap a newer 5.4 in my 97 F150 Supercab?

Has anyone out there had success in installing a newer 5.4 in their 97 or 98 F150 2w drive? I understand the newer engines have more HP with the newer heads, but they also might not work with the 97 computer and bracketry. The rebuilders/remanufacturers tell me to stick with the 97 style engine due to computer and bracket mismatches. Just want to make sure I'm getting the correct answer.

Thanks.

They work you just need a simple tune to get it to work optimally. Any good tuner can make one for you easily. I'd suggest troyerperformance.com.

Just to clarify,as long as it's a 2V and not a 3V,that's not a big deal. Swapping to a 3V is a problem.
