I've been wanting to color match my hitch cover for some time now. I recently found DIY instructions on how to accomplish the task. Here are some pics and general steps;
My hitch cover did not have the thick layer of clear that the OEM ovals do, this clear would have to be removed from the OEM ovals. Clean the area with any product that removes grease and wax, handling care should be taken from now on. Mask off the outer ring and then apply a thin layer of a parting agent, you can use a crayon or a chap stix to do this, for the FORD lettering. Once this is done you can paint the emblem any color you want.
Once the paint dries you can use a razor blade to scrap off the paint that has dried on top of the parting agent. This takes very little effort, you can actually remove it with your finger nail. Demask the rest of the emblem at this point.
Then you are ready to mix your EnviroTex Lite pour-on finish. Follow the directions as outlined on the box. Make sure that the work piece is somewhat leveled before applying resin. I mixed enough to make 2.5 oz. of resin, which was a little too much, had .5 oz. left over. Pour it over the area and spread over the entire work piece. You will have to remove the drips that form around the edge of the badge. This may have to be repeated several times as the resin flows over and starts to level out. Once there are minimul drips left you can wait 2 hrs. and then remove them completly. Now all you have to wait till the resin cures completely, you might want to cover the part to protect it from debris.
After the resin cures install the piece back on your ride and step back and admire!!!
Clean work - nicely done. Reps on the way for excellent pics.

I just picked up supplies to do mine - should have plenty of extra material (Have a red truck - so picked up red and black paint.) I won't volunteer to help anyone else until I see how mine turn out - but should be at least a week or two before I have time to get to it. (The rest of the parts in my sig have been arriving daily - so engine work might happen before pretty parts get taken care of.) Will let you guys know when I get time to play with it.
