1949 F-1 4x4
I recently purchased a 1949 F-1 Ford pickup. I would like to install the body on a later model 4x4 chassis. I don't have specs on the '49 but it appears to have a 114" wheelbase. I have been told that a 1978 Bronco chassis would work; however, according to a Bronco spec sheet, it has a 104" wheelbase. Maybe a '78 swb pickup? If anyone has any information on this subject it would be greatly appreciated.

For the most part Ford trucks stayed the same from '67-'79. Rather than try to find an exact match which is going to be highly unlikely you might be better off going with a longer wheelbase truck than you need and shortening the rear half of the frame and one drive shaft. Don't forget to consider your track width. The rear axles from '73 - '79 are wider by 4" than those from '67 - '72.

I actually had the link to Leroy's build thread copied.
Well might as well post it.

Since the truck is leaf sprung on all corners, converting the existing chassis to 4x4 wouldn't be all that hard. If you aren't looking to built anything too crazy, early bronco axles match up pretty nicely.
