The guy who posted post #74 on this thread claimed the pulleys don't interchange. I don't know if this is fact or not.https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...ering-fix.html
i would be that guy, lol yes the c2 pulley is a smaller inside diameter than the saginaw, and you want to make sure you get a complete pump and bracket from the yard with pulley as the pulley is obsolete from ford. i did use the later e-van hose, i just tweeked it to fit, no issue it fits , what you said about the fluid is true, what ever the box desigantes. i used ford spec mercon 5 in mine , after almost a year its still working well . i beat the living hell out of my poor truck. - justin

Will the Cardone pump bolt up to the stock bracket and will the stock pully fit the cardone?

I've had this happen a few times on my old truck, seemed that the cap would loosed up a little bit and then when I turned the wheel with the engine off, it would push fluid out the top. I i checked/tightened up the cap first, it wouldn't do that. (But who is going to check/tighten their PS pump cap every time they do that).

So how do you like the new pump?
Also, excellent post.

I think of this upgrade as tied for the best upgrade I have done to the truck. The pump is much quieter and much stronger. I also like how simple it was.

Hey guys....it seems that the "older" Saginaw/A1Cardone pump 20-6244 is very hard to find. But I hear folks are grabbing the PS Pump out of early to mid 90s econoline vans. That seems to be the A1Cardone model 20-7878. Does anyone have working knowledge of the differences, they look pretty much the same to me. (i.e. it seems that maybe there isn't much difference at all between 20-6244 and 20-7878).

Also looks like all Econolines had this pump from at least 80-96.

Why do you say they are getting hard to find? I went up to Advance auto and ordered mine and got it like 2 days later.
Ive had mine on for about 9 months with nothing but great results.

Two reasons: A1 Cardone does not have it in their catalog anymore and RockAuto's page says you have to find one, then send it in for re-manufacturing. Also, I think the picture on the Advance Auto website is the "old" product. I think the new one is a re-manufactured ford part (not saginaw). I could be wrong though.

Not to dig up an old thread but I will anyway.

Will the Econoline pumps mount to the F series brackets like the cardones will or will you have to use a Econoline bracket?

Don't ever turn a Ford P/S pump side to side with the engine off, it will barf!

Completely normal. You have to take the cap off of it if you really have to turn the wheels with the engine off.

The saginaw pumps really are awesome! They are quiet and tough!

The steering wheel in my 11,000 pound motorhome is easier to turn than in my F150.

Did this conversion on my 93 F150. My truck has the 5.0 and 347,000 miles. My original pump was quiet but leaked like crazy, so i bought a Ford reman CII pump. The new pump didn't leak but whined like crazy. I bled it, flushed it, and bled it again. Still noisy.

I started researching on this site and found out about the saginaw. I seriously looked at the Cardone conversion as i found one on line that was still available but decided against it because of Cardone's quality issues. Instead, i bought a pump and bracket off of a 93 van 5.0. The bracket and pump bolted right on and my A/C compressor fit with no problem. For the hose, i was not successful in removing the outlet fitting from the CII pump. I got it out, but it has some sort of spring behind it and i was afraid i could not install it in the saginaw. Instead, i took my original pressure hose and the pressure hose from the van and had a hose shop crimp the van fitting on my rubber hose.

I poured Type F in the pump, cranked the engine with the starter and turned the wheels lock to lock, and then started her up. Quiet! The van pump is the way to go! Let me know if you have any questions.

Dave
