88 5.0w/aod&t/c fit in 78 F150 4x4

Will an 88 5.0 with AOD trans and transfer case fit into a 78 F150 4x4 that now has a very tired 351M, tired C6 and 205 transfer case? I can purchase the 88 5.0 complete with all asscosseries, all wiring with computer, aod trans and transfer case with only 68,000 actual miles out of 88 F150 for $1150.00 It might be a great milage improvement with the OD and mabe better power with the fuel injection on the 5.0. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jmy Lew

I'm guessing (stress guessing) that this would be no problem. Mounts for the engine will have to be converted to small block (maybe, not sure if they are different). The exhaust will have to be changed. The tranny mount will probably have to be relocated, and make sure the output for the front driveshaft is on the same side of the truck. Other than the wiring, it should go fairly smoothly, there is plenty of room under the hood of these things. The radiator should be fine, but I would add a tranny cooler, and bypass the one in the radiator.

I wouldn't do it for 3 reasons:
1. A 302 will never make the torque of a 351 and
torque is what you need in a truck.
2. Installing an AOD or E4OD tranny is just asking for problems...just look back on the posts at this website! A C-6 is much more reliable and much cheaper to repair if it does fail.
3. If your looking for good gas mileage...buy an import...trucks were never designed to win mileage contests
Just my 1 & 1/2 cents worth.
