Dual Alternators V10

I thought I would share this with you guys with excursions and super duties with he v10's that need more power for a stereo, lights, and whatever else you have that needs alot of extra power. This is the best way to have an alternative to buying a large single alternator. I consistantly pull about 140 amps and peak at about 185 amps with my stereo. My volt meters never go below 13.6 volts. There are more pics in my gallery under the excursion updated pics but here are a couple..

The bad part about most of the companies out there is that the just have rewound stators and some bigger rectifiers to get more amperage out of them. Most big alts say that they will do X amps, but will only do about 50 or less at idle. I know for a fact that mine will do over 100 each at idle. Oh, I bought mine as a kit that made it a 15 minute job to install. Robbie and Dave at Home page are imo the best out there and their service is without a doubt the best. You will see my truck on their site in a couple days. They just came out with a kit for the powerstroke diesels that is a single 315 amp alt that mounts in the stock location and will do something like 120 amps at idle. That's like amazing for those trucks.

honestly I haven't even looked, this was for a 'burb we were going to do 6 alts in and ended up with 5+stocker, it's big, and looking at your pic, I doubt its gonna drop right in without some work.

easily..lotsa amps...I have done car audio systems with upwards of 800amps draw, multiple runs of 4/0 wire
cb radio shootout trucks that output 20K watts for short burst, you work out the math, 12 batteries, 5x250amp alternators , operating voltage of amplifier @15v

and yes, you can arc weld with 2 car batteries, a big alternator and a set of jumper cables if you need to, make sure you have the right rods

Dual Alternators V10 ?

Do those two alternators run in parallel to one battery, or do they each feed an individual battery and separate power distribution in the vehicle?

What does a set up like that cost? (If you don't mind me asking)

Thank you,

-JR

The entire setup was like 1000. And that's with 2 batteries, 2 brand new alts, the battery tray, and the wiring. The gauges were about another 600 or so. The alts are completely seperate from each other. The main alt in the factory location only runs the truck and the original battery. The second alt only runs the stereo amps and other aftermarket stuff. It has its own battery and only charges that battery. If at any time the two systems join, something will go boom. Its two totally seperate systems on one truck. Wrangler offroad is the only one who makes a battery tray kit for the v10 trucks because of the evap cannister. If you contact daves dc electric, tell them that ROB with the black excursion sent you to them. My X should be on their site soon. I am trying to tell everyone about this kit they have. Let me know if you have more ???? They can also build custom alts to. He is gonna replace my second alt witha 250 amp version.

You notice a loss in MPG with having the second alt. installed? And did you upgrade the grounds also?

no loss in mpg. as for wiring.... all factory wiring replaced with new. all the power and grounds were replaced with 2 gauge. extra grounds to the frame from batteries--2 gauge. 0 gauge power wire from 2nd battery to amp distribution plate. 0 gauge from amp ground distribution plate to frame. ALL GROUNDS GO TO THE FRAME NOT THE BODY. in the first pic, you see the brown cables on the alternators, thats the power wires. oh, all terminals are soldiered and crimped and i'm using some heavy duty professional audio battery clamps that were like $74 each.

funny you brought this up, i'm selling my setup as we speek. Yesterday, I just ordered a single 390 amp alternator. cost--ouch over $1000. Oh, since then, Their name changed. Still same company and people. It's WWW.DCPOWERINC.COM , they arent ready for the new dual alt setup yet. still in r and d. plus, the first alt will cost $599, dual bracket will be $350, secont alt will be $450. pm me if you are interested in my setup. plenty of pics in my gallery. looking to go pretty cheap. oh, you will NEED dual batteries in your truck too. When you go to their website, look at the XP series, Their XP270 is their mac daddy alternator.the only thing better is the XP390. Its not on their site because its new and $$$$$$$.
